Abstract
In this paper we propose a framework for analyzing synchronization performance of UWB systems based on differential receiver architectures. We introduce an extended signal flow graph representation based on the Markov chain theory, which is able to easily and efficiently include realistic Verification/False Alarm Recovery Systems and whose analysis has been typically simplified so far. The proposed model, which turns out to fall within the Markov chain theory with multiple terminating hypotheses and multiple absorbing states, is used to investigate the performance of one¿ and two¿step search schemes with absorbing false alarm occurrences. The analysis of the Overall Detection (Acquisition) Probability shows that the two¿step scheme can provide better acquisition probabilities with comparable synchronization accuracy.
