Abstract :
We review basic concept and recent advance of the direct-detection (incoherent) higher-order multilevel signalling scheme for high-speed fibre link at 40, 100 Gbit/s or beyond, which is expected to serve as a simple alternative to the one with dual-polarization coherent detection.
