  • Abstract
During the era of the deregulated power systems and the competition between utilities with limited budgets, the need for increasing the life time of the equipments with acceptable performance becomes a must. This can be achieved by the continuous condition monitoring (CM) of the electrical equipment. Using CM, the trends of the equipments can be verified and also the unknown faults can be diagnosed. Further more, man power, down time, and repair costs can be optimized using CM. As a result, the life time of the equipment can be extended with acceptable performance guaranteed. The transformer could be considered as one of the most critical equipments in the power system. In this paper a through and critical literature survey on the condition monitoring of the transformers is presented. The survey contains all transformer monitoring techniques.
