Abstract
The authors introduce a new algorithm for coding in the vector transform domain based upon a thresholding technique. First a set of image vectors is transformed into the vector transform domain by using a 2D vector transform. Vector quantization is performed on only those transform domain vectors having a length exceeding a specified threshold value. A general approach to optimizing the threshold map for the human visual system is discussed. Simulation results based on a specific threshold map are presented and compared with those using other techniques
