Abstract
Using alarm deadbands is a common method for reducing the number of false and missed alarms and amount of chattering. Existing methods for designing alarm deadbands are quite general or need online computations. This paper studies the relation between optimal alarm thresholds and deadbands. Two equations are proposed to estimate the optimal threshold with respect to the deadband and history of the process variable.
