Abstract
An inverter and squirrel cage induction motor drive are presented which alleviate many of the snubber problems associated with conventional DC-fed inverter bridges. The inverter leg series inductance snubber is effectively increased by inserting the motor leakage inductance. The increased leg inductance decreases unwanted turn-off snubber charging currents and controls simultaneous conduction current. The concept and principles are illustrated with a novel 4 kW output drive.
