  • Abstract
Engineers entering a profession in the electricity metering industry or for that matter, engineers who have several years experience in this field, probably find the legislation concerning electricity meters confusing. Many would have no clear idea, if any, of the relationship between National legislation, EC directives and metering standards. Here, the author outlines how all electricity meters used for tariff purposes have to comply with National regulations or EC directives. Currently, there are several statutory instruments and directions for electricity meters made under primary legislation and other regulations made under the European Council directive. In addition, depending on the accuracy class and technology used, electricity meters have to comply with various British and international standards
