Abstract
Western economic performance is primarily the result of financial oriented management thinking. Here the author describes how, by contrast, Far Eastern (notable Japanese) economic performance results from concentration on continual improvement through process oriented management. Financial thinking sees earnings per share as the barometer of business success. Process thinking however sees added value per unit payroll cost as a more important measure
