Abstract :
A PCN is deployed in a city area having rectilinear streets. CDMA base stations are located at the street intersections to give a tessellated microcellular structure. The performance of the asynchronous uplink with different accuracy of power control, and the synchronous downlink without power control are analysed. The authors find that, for perfect power control, the PCN can support 72 and 85 users per microcell with a BER less than 10/sup -3/ for voice activity factors (VAFs) of 1/2 and 3/8, respectively, with a standard deviation of power control error less than 1 dB, 42 and 56 users per microcell can be supported with outage rate less than 1% for VAFs of 1/2 and 3/8, respectively. In the downlink, even at the boundary of the microcell, each microcell can support 58 users with BER less 10/sup -3/ for VAF of 1/2.<>
