  • Abstract
The lateral illumination technique is performed to allow the recording of dynamically reconfigurable channel-type (2D) waveguides in the bulk of the photorefractive crystal. The new approach involves simultaneous side illumination with properly shaped waves from two perpendicular transverse surfaces of the crystal . The role and the required shape of the two transverse control waves is different, as can be shown theoretically and experimentally.
