Abstract
Summary form only given. The problem the panel faces is that of defining guidelines for the next generation of data acquisition and control devices and systems. Subjects such as system partitioning, multiplexed versus single channel conversion, data transmission methods, analog versus digital techniques, and user needs will be discussed. What accuracies are really needed for most tasks? Will the ideal analog peripheral ever exist? What will be the role of intelligent converters and converters on microprocessors? What new needs will be exposed by the existence of complete LSI systems, rather than digital only devices? What converter types will eventually dominate? What progress has been made in standardizing peripheral interfaces?
