Abstract
Some capacitor types, such as tantalum capacitors, cannot be well modeled by means of the commonly used R-L-C network, so other equivalent circuits are required when an accurate model is needed. This paper proposes a simple and systematic modeling procedure of capacitors. A canonical passive network (minimum number of elements) is synthesized from the frequency response of the capacitor. The validation is done through experimental measurements on a tantalum capacitor qualified for space applications and data from a manufacturer online catalog for a variety of capacitor types.
