  • Abstract
The authors describes the development of horizontal axis wind turbine design. Partly in reaction to the high stress vertical axis problem, a minimisation of both stress and fatigue in the wind power machine was a prime design target. A flexible blade self-regulating rotor was conceived for the HAWT. Here, the author examines the need for a drive train and generator-necessary to convert the rotor shaft power into electric power. The intention was to use, as far as possible, standard industrial components for the drive train and generator, in order to ease development problems and reduce costs
