X-related graphical user interfaces: a design team´s experience

The paper describes the experiences of a design team gained through the software engineering of a graphical environment for computer aided control system design (CACSD). Although the team´s work involves only the very particular domain area of control system design, it is hoped that the experience gained is applicable to most areas of computer aided design (CAD). The need for software support of user interface development is illustrated and the availability of such support, for applications developed using the X Window System, discussed. The teams experience of existing language based and graphical interface construction tools is then summarised
