Abstract
The interaction between variable frequency converters and the electrical machines they drive can lead to some unexpected effects such as harmonic motor torques and noncharacteristic supply harmonics. The modelling of electrical machines and drives using a computer aided engineering (CAE) software package is discussed. The advantages of using time domain simulation to study machine and converter interactions are high-lighted, using as an example a six pulse cycloconverter drive
