Abstract
A new quasi-resonant inverter structured by a minimum number of devices is proposed. The quasi-resonant circuit is used as an interface between DC voltage supply and the conventional voltage source PWM inverter. Therefore, the circuit is required to operate at several times of the carrier frequency for the PWM inverter. The number of commutation can be reduced by the PWM strategy. Increasing the amplitude of the fundamental component included in the output waveform achieves an effective utilization of the DC power supply, reduces the rated capacity of the inverter elements, and decreases the conduction loss of the switching devices. In this paper, a new PWM method suitable for the quasi-resonant PWM inverter is also proposed
