Abstract
A knowledge-based (expert) system approach to power electronic circuit design is presented. The resulting system is designated PECT. It is written using Smalltalk-80 and integrates AI techniques of production rules for `high-level´ knowledge representation. PECT embraces elements of power circuitry design and contains such features as selection of circuit configuration, control facility and the best choice of power device for a given application. It is interfaced with HSPICE and a semiconductor power device library. System architecture as well as the target design realisation process are described. The criteria of development and the factors and requirements in building the PECT are also outlined
