Abstract
Describes the development by PTT Research of tools to support the planning of VSAT services and the design of a tool in the framework of TV/SNG services. These tools were initially written for the Eutelsat space segment with an extension to the Intelsat space segment. Frequency range is 4-15 GHz with emphasis on Ku-band applications. Detailed link budget calculation for each of these services with a minimal number of user inputs is provided. This has been done by implementing modules with TWT characteristics, satellite interference models and databases containing climatic zone maps and equipment parameters. Customised user interfaces make operation easier
