Abstract
There is considerable interest in developing antenna systems which can provide a multi-beam capability without very complex, bulky and potentially unreliable beamforming networks. Future systems supporting mobile communications networks may be relocated from L-Band to Ka-Band, where several GHz of un-used spectrum are available. ERA Technology has been developing frequency scanning antenna technology in order to define its limitations when applied to a Ka-Band space-borne high gain antenna system. A linearly polarised offset parabolic reflector antenna fed using a pair of frequency scanning waveguide slot arrays has been constructed and evaluated. Further development to redesign the array feed for circular polarisation is nearing completion
