  • Abstract
    A high frequency acoustic propagation and bottom scattering experiment was conducted by the Naval Research Laboratory in the Baltic Sea near Eckernforde Bucht, Germany during May 1993. Bottom and surface back, forward, and bistatic scatter, acoustic bottom penetration, and direct path data were collected using the NRL high frequency acoustic data collection system. This paper is concerned with the statistics of direct path propagation signals, and includes amplitude variations, means, variances, coefficients of variation, and probability distributions for several receiving hydrophones over the frequency range from 20 to 150 kHz
