Abstract
Summary form only given. The authors build upon and extend the results of a pilot study by Doutriaux and Goslin (1990) which compared a small sample of US and Canadian firms where many of the firms studied were venture-capital-funded high-technology start-ups. For each country set an information base was developed on characteristics of the high-technology, start-up situation. The information relates to an expanding database, including the US, Canada, and Eastern Europe. Additional information was obtained by interview to provide insights on the entrepreneurial marketing style utilized, cultural characteristics of the firm, and perspectives of the time horizon of strategy. The 1990 representative firms from which information was solicited were drawn from the US (Pacific Northwest), Canada (Ontario), and the Eastern Bloc (Poland)
