Abstract
In this paper, an approach to simulate SAR images is introduced that departs from most other simulation algorithms in the method of speckle generation. Ray tracing is applied to simulate SAR images. During ray tracing, a random displacement is added at the junction of each ray and the target to simulate the rough surface of the target which is the fundamental reason of the generation of speckle noise. The distribution of random displacements can be adjusted according to the texture of targets and the wavelength of incident waves. Simulation results verify the accuracy of this approach.
