Abstract :
Intelligent organizations seek cues from their environment and, out of necessity, evaluate consequences of plans with elaborate control systems. This paper explores the direction of change in the evolution of information technology fostered by intelligent organizations. Intelligence information as a basis for linkages between organizational units, organizations, and the environment, will play a greater role in defining a platform for intelligent organizations to use information technology services. A brief review of organizational learning demonstrates that information technology plays a vital role in interpretive, reconstructive, and cultural learning. Different types of control systems (correction, assessment, and change) facilitate learning for adaptation to turbulent environments. The concept of organizational intelligence services (OIS) is presented. OIS consist of three major functions: intelligence services, operations services, and user services. Speculation about the implementation of the OIS concept and its consequences for intelligent organizations is included. OIS for intelligent organizations will evolve to incorporate both learning and experience to achieve success in an increasingly global and competitive business environment
