Abstract
Surveys of graduates in employment reveal interesting views of their expectations. Most graduates, when asked the question `What are you looking for out of your training/employment?´-are asking for Career Development. When asked further as to their definition of Career Development, the most frequent meaning is of promotion/hierarchical move. A more realistic definition of Career Development is `enhancing my personal capability´, or `Continuous Learning´. To achieve this British Aerospace Defence Ltd. have introduced for all staff a Personal Development Review (PDR). It is important to recognise that this generally falls outside the performance assessment and rewards process. People are assessed against achievement of output, not development. Development then underpins and enables performance. The Personal Development Review (PDR), is the start of a continuous coaching and learning process between you and your boss
