  • Abstract
From a technical viewpoint the support of digital audio and video in computer systems poses many interesting challenges, including thinking in terms of streams rather than units of data, the consequent invention and remodelling of existing support models, the exploitation of emerging hardware, and an acknowledgement of the necessity for trade-offs in delivered quality (or, the Quality of Service QOS). These and other aspects of system support are valid and important areas of research to pursue. There will be many factors that will influence the direction of research; one of these is obviously a consideration of the end-user of the system, via the work of a user interface designer. The presentation explores some of the end-user issues
