  • Abstract
    Summary form only given. Recent exploratory work involving imploding Al cable array z-pinches on the COBRA pulsed power generator has shown an approximate factor of 2 increase in peak x-ray power output. A scan of cable twist wavelengths (λt) and their effect on x-ray power output, yield, effective current radius, ablation modulation and hotspot formation along the pinch axis is presented. Previous core radiographs of Ni cable arrays revealed helix-like structures of enhanced density and fan shaped regions of smooth falloff in density that appeared to follow the twist of the individual cable. We present follow-up radiographs of multi-material cable arrays which may provide insight into the mechanisms responsible for these structures seen in the core. X-ray streak spectra from imploding wire and cable arrays is also presented.
