Abstract
It is shown in this letter that photonic crystals can modify the diffraction of the light in that the diffraction can vanish in propagation through particularly prepared photonic crystals. An analytical study of the propagation of the plane waves is performed, by expanding the electromagnetic field into a set of spatially harmonic (Bloch) modes. The nondiffractive propagation is checked by a direct numerical integration of wave equation.
