  • Abstract
Distributed group support system (DGSS) is technology that can help groups to overcome some of the problems associated with being in different places and different time zones. The purpose of this paper is to propose a framework for DGSS research that will encompass the major issues involved in the application of DGSS. The issues, compiled from a literature review and a small scale survey of practitioners, include topics, such as security of information, identification of approved members, and the role of a facilitator. The changing structure of organizations due to downsizing and globalization, is being assisted by the increased access to communication media, such as videoconferencing, fax, and high speed data networks. As the changes take place there is a need to define the use of the technology and to define the structure of the distributed group
