Abstract :
This paper studies different admission control policies for femtocell operation. As a macro user moves closer to femtocell, macro user generates greater interference to femto user. If macro user is closer than a critical distance from femto BS, we show that it is better for femto BS to allow access to macro user. By allowing access to macro user, the reduction in available bandwidth for femto user can be compensated by the elimination of interference generated by macro user. We also define an operating region where both the macro user and femto BS has motivation to operate in open access mode. Finally we discuss two policies for open access mode that share the benefits of open access mode differently among the femto user and macro user.
