Abstract
We generated laser produced hydrogen plasmas as part of a future laser ion source. Hydrogen, which is in gas state at room temperature, needs to be cooled to solid target for laser irradiation. We generated solid hydrogen targets in our laser ion source chamber with a cryogenic cooler. By irradiating the solid hydrogen with a Nd:YAG laser (532 nm half-wavelength), we generated hydrogen ion.
