Abstract
This work presents a method for counting tiny-size watch parts called jewels that are in a flexible tube container using template matching. Since an accurate automatic counting method is required to replace manual-counting labor, in this method, an image is firstly preprocessed in order to enhance the brightness, contrast and reduce noise. The enhanced image is then compared with a template of the jewel created from the standard. The jewel is recognized, and a counter counts it as a jewel when it is matched with the template. The experimental results show that this method is faster and more convenient with high accuracy.
