Shape optimisation of power frequency electromagnetic devices

There are numerous commercial computer aided design (CAD) systems available for electromagnetic field analysis. These CAD systems represent an invaluable design tool. However, during the design process the engineer is often faced with the situation of having to run the electromagnetic software many times until an acceptable solution is achieved. The aim of the paper is to show some results of an investigation in which a CAD system is coupled with an optimiser solver, which is based on deterministic methods, in an attempt to solve the shape optimisation of power frequency electromagnetic devices automatically
