Abstract
To bring robot and joining process and the workpiece together, we can either take the process to the work or move the work to the process. The latter technique has been most widely used. However, there would be advantages, where the structure is large, if the process could be moved to the workpiece. This paper concentrates on joining by fusion welding. However, it is believed that the problems described are encountered with most robotic joining operations
