  • Abstract
Efficient inspection and detection of features below the ground can be provided by pulsed radar equipment. However, until recently, reliable results could only be achieved with bulky equipment operated by someone experienced in its use and skilled at analysing the reflection patterns produced. This paper describes Redifon´s Ground Survey Radar (GSR), a pulsed radar system which is one man portable and incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically interpret the reflection patterns. The paper begins with a brief overview of three topics: the technique of pulsed radar, Redifon´s GSR and neural networks. It then describes the processing of the radar reflection image, based on pre-processing algorithms and a neural network. Implementation in real-time is described and results for detecting voids within the ground are presented
