Abstract
We investigate the use of distributed Raman amplification (DRA) for soliton amplification. The bi-directional pumped DRA is designed for constructing flat signal power distribution in amplification span. This results in the complete cancellation of the fiber loss during the propagation. The soliton, in our scheme, behaves like the ideal soliton and the constraint of amplification span can be overcome. By computer simulation, we demonstrated that, when the amplification span becomes comparable or longer than the soliton period, the soliton transmission in chain of our designed DRA gives significantly better bit-error rate than the lump amplification.
