Abstract
The focus of the paper is on business aspects rather than technical aspects with a concentration on the business implications, opportunities and issues arising from the availability of very high speed communications. High speed (gigabit) networking is one of several networking developments that allow businesses to exploit opportunities that may not have been possible in the past. The downside is that such opportunities will also be available to both established and new players in the market place and will therefore, also represent a competitive threat
