Abstract :
CPI has successfully completed a development program to design and build a 5MW X-band klystron for medical and cargo screening applications. The VKX-8253A amplifier is water-cooled, solenoid focused, fixed tuned klystron. SN-001 was built and tested in 2011 and demonstrated 5.4MW of peak and 18kW of average RF power at 9.3 GHz. The design approach and the experimental results will be discussed in this paper.
