Abstract
This paper presents ideas and models which do not enable the calculation of absolute values for the reliability of telecommunication network nodes, but allow an analysis of different solutions by the adoption of a uniform standard measure. The influence exercised by the various types of telephone connections with their different kinds and numbers of components can likewise be determined with the aid of these models. What is more, the models permit a relation to be established to the repair service and its organizational and technical facilities, so that it can be included in such reliability considerations. In addition, these models enable estimation of the impact of reliability on the quality of service offered to the customer. Thus they are also well-suited for solving reliability problems arising from optical fibre application in the subscriber line network
