Abstract :
The continuous growth of the transportation sector, along with the intensified use of private mobility, has lead the Greek urban transport networks almost to saturation. The provision of travel information together with efficient travel management measures can significantly contribute to cleaner and more efficient urban networks. Travel Information Systems encompass a wide range of technologies that are being designed to provide travelers with up to date traffic information. The rapid growth of information and communication technologies (ICT) has lead to further development of travel information systems, which will provide customized information focusing on the specific needs of each traveler and therefore offer substantial benefits towards urban mobility. This paper presents the use of stated preference experiments and of Delphi technique in a market research conducted to identify the user requirements for next generation travel information systems for the Athens Metropolitan Area, Greece.
