Abstract :
The authors investigated the behavior of a compressed axisymmetric jet in order to obtain a better understanding of the response of such turbulent flows to compression. Both theoretical and experimental investigations were carried out. The experimental part of the investigation is presented. The evolution of the temperature field was investigated by the cold-wire technique. The kinematic behavior of the jet during compression was studied by LDV measurements. The measurements clearly show the existence of different longitudinal zones of flow compression interaction. A rise of the longitudinal zones of flow compression interaction. A rise of the longitudinal turbulent intensity for x/D>10 was detected for the applied compression, where x is the axial distance from the ejection nozzle and D is the diameter of the nozzle. This rise causes a decrease of about 30% of the relative axial mean velocity
