Abstract
This paper investigates the identification and tracking of the scattering centers models associated with the frequency response of a frequency-dependent backscattered echo. Elementary backscatterers magnitude, range and phase are tracked adaptively in the frequency measurement-space. A combined detection-estimation operation is accomplished by the joint application of a cascade of IIR notch filters and a recursive least square estimation. The elementary outputs´ powers are used to determine the number of signal components
