Abstract :
This paper will describe ongoing efforts to further the development and implementation of Common Channel Signaling (CCS) in the Defense Switched Network (DSN). The common channel signaling system to be employed is based upon CCITT Signaling System No. 7. One goal for this task is to utilize, where practical, information on how Signaling System No. 7 is evolving and its anticipated impact upon the DSN. Specific objectives include determining the optimum strategy for implementation ofcommon channel signaling in the DSN, and providing the basis for determining a final Signaling System No. 7 specification for the DSN. The progress to date on the prospects to include DSN requirements as part of an officially approved North American standard on common channel signaling is also reported.
