Abstract
Process control systems tend to fall somewhere between the hardware of the plant and the software needed to achieve the process that chemists requirements. Design, implementation and testing of such systems therefore also tends to fall, sometimes uncomfortably, between the hardware and software aspects. Before outlining the areas of responsibility and some experiences in the supply of such systems, the author considers their main components and their associated engineering activities
