Abstract
A time-domain framework is introduced for the analysis and design of general M -band analysis/synthesis filter banks. The derivation results in a set of time-domain conditions for reconstruction which can be used in a filter design procedure. Preliminary investigations of this new approach have shown that the general and unrestricted nature of the framework allows for the design of many useful filter banks and reconstruction solutions not previously reported in the literature. Although the focus is primarily on the filter bank theory, design examples are also included
