Abstract
The worldwide introduction of synchronous digital hierarchy in telecommunication networks, combined with a fast evolution of radio applications in the access area, has recently originated a new generation radio family, offering a large variety of transported capacities and frequency bands. Some major innovative aspects of this new SDH radio are highlighted in the following, focusing on adopted baseband and microwave technologies and on corresponding advantages in transmission quality performance. The impact of a modern network supervision (TMN) on the general architecture of such radio systems is also presented describing the implemented solutions and the basic evolving strategy
