Abstract :
The author presents the issues relevant to the design of gigabit per second local area networks. He also presents a tokenless media access protocol called the SC Ring vertically integrated with a high performance transport protocol called Turbo Transport Protocol. The author also presents a performance comparison between the SC Ring media access protocol and three other widely used protocols. The performance of the media access level of the proposed protocol has been shown to be superior to existing popular protocols, particularly the token passing ring.<>
