Abstract
The V5 interfaces defined by ETSI have adopted a robust approach to public switched telephone network (PSTN) and integrated services digital network (ISDN) signaling which can easily be extended to include non-European requirements. The communications channels on the V5 interface use timeslots which can be labeled in a generic way and the rationale behind the mapping of these onto 2.048-Mb/s links can then be applied to 1.544-Mb/s links
