Abstract
A high-performance widely tuneable optical source is presented for microwave photonic applications. An EAM (electroabsorption waveguide modulator)-integrated SGDBR (sampled grating distributed Bragg reflector) laser is characterised with regards to noise and linearity at 1530 nm, 1545 nm and 1560 nm. By selecting the EAM bias point, 99 dBc/Hz12/ broadband spurious-free dynamic range or a 114 dBc/Hz23/ sub-octave spurious-free dynamic range is demonstrated.
