  • Abstract
The desulphurizing tower used in the power plant is the key environmental protection facility to eliminate the air pollution. Multiple cutouts are opened on the tower wall because of the technology requirement. The presence of multiple cutouts will influence the stability of tower under wind loading. On the project background of the large-scale thin-walled cylindrical shells of a practical desulphurizing tower, the investigations are conducted into the buckling mode and buckling capacity of the large-scale thin-walled cylindrical shells with multiple circular cutouts under wind loading by nonlinear finite element methods. The influences a reinvestigated of the cutout position and the number of cutouts on the buckling behavior of cylindrical shells under wind loading. The comparison is conducted between the buckling response of the cylinder with a single cutout and that of the cylinder with multiple cutouts. On the basis of comparison results, the proposal is produced for the buckling check against wind loading of large-scale thin-walled cylindrical shells structure as desulphurizing tower.
