Abstract :
A novel compact antenna with four-band operation is proposed for WLAN/WiMAX applications. The multi-band performance is obtained through the parasitic inverted U-shaped element, the defected ground plane and an inverted L-shaped slot in the signal strip line, all of which printed on the substrate with a single metallic layer. To compact the antenna size and overcome the high impedance problem, the signal strip line is designed to be located at the left of the rectangular ground plane. Such structure can cause meandering of the surface current paths, which lead to lower the resonant frequency of the antenna, corresponding to a reduced antenna size. Furthermore, the design capability of multi-band operation has also been explained in the later part of the study.
